Jumanji, the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, was remade 22 years later with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, and it became a massive hit.
The creation of Jumanji 4 has just begun, and the studio has ambitious intentions for the sequel. Many viewers of the 1995 film are holding out hope that Kirsten Dunst may reprise her role as Judy Shepherd.
Judy Shepherd in Jumanji
Dunst co-starred in the fantasy picture with the late great Robin Williams when she was only 12 years old.
Williams portrayed Alan Parrish, a traumatized jungle man who had spent the better part of four decades confined inside a magical board game called Jumanji.
When Parrish’s game was found and played by Dunst and Bradley Pierce’s Judy and Peter Shepherd, two orphans who had recently moved into a new house, Parrish was freed from the game.
The gang tracks down Sarah Whittle (Bonnie Hunt), the initial player in Parrish’s game and the only person ever called “crazy” for her account of the small boy’s abduction.
They manage to persuade her to aid them in completing the game before they are killed by the game’s deadly monsters.
Is Dunst Interested In Reprising The Role?
The Spider-Man star stated her desire to return to the Jumanji franchise in 2017 during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“That’d be fun,” she said. “I would definitely do something in that if they wanted me to.”
“I honestly didn’t even know they were making a Jumanji movie,” Dunstquipped. “I’m offended I haven’t been reached out to be in it!”
The video game adaptation of the board game, in which four youths sentenced to detention find themselves stuck as adult avatars on a mission, ultimately resulted in the actress’s decision to drop out of the picture.
The film features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillian, and Nick Jonas as video game avatars who must join forces to vanquish the villainous Professor Russell Van Pelt and return to the real world.
The 2017 film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a huge financial success, generating $962.1 million around the world.
How Could Judy Shepherd Come Back Into The Jumanji Fold?
In the 2019 sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, the original cast of the 2002 film returns to save their friend from being sucked back into the game.
Former diner owners Danny DeVito and Danny Glover joined the cast to argue over the sale of their business.
They join the teenagers in playing the game. After discovering that evil warlord Jurgen the Brutal (Rory McCann) has stolen the magic of Jumanji, the players understand that they must beat him in order to save the game.
After returning to reality, DeVito’s character applies for a management position at his old diner, only to find that Judy’s aunt Nora Shepherd (Bebe Neuwirth) has taken over the business.
More than twenty-five years after Alan’s disappearance, the Shepherd kids and Aunt Nora move into the Parrish family’s deserted mansion in the original.
Alan and Sarah’s child selves travel back in time and throw the game into a river as the film’s climactic scene.
In a glimpse into the future, Williams’ and Hunt’s characters have tied the knot, hired the father to work at their shoe factory, and invited the Shepherds over for a holiday dinner.
Although Judy and Peter have no recollection of their parents, Alan and Sarah, the adult players prevent them from dying in a vehicle accident.
Whatβs Up Next For Jumanji 4?
Jumanji: The Next Level teased that the game could cross over into the real world, and Aunt Nora’s cameo suggested that Judy and Peter Shepherd might still have ties to the area.
Midway through the credits, a herd of ostriches that had previously only been seen in the game rush along a busy street, suggesting that the game’s creatures and all of the avatars within it have the ability to transfer into the same New Hampshire town that was destroyed in the original Jumanji.
Since it’s unlikely that Jumanji 4 will hit theaters before at least 2024, the narrative is being kept under wraps and no actor negotiations have begun.
However, the final film gives Kirsten Dunst fans optimism that she may join The Rock and Kevin Hart in the sequel.
